what a week

things are all quiet on the front again~ or at least so they seem. i hope i'm not jinxing it!!

i got to drive out to anthony's school yesterday to meet his papa for the Top Cat pep rally. i guess they do it every report card period. a couple kids in each class get picked as the Top Cat. they get a certificate and medal. anthony was SOOOOO cute! he's extremely proud of himself~ as well he should be! he got straight E's on his report card (little guys don't get A,B,C,N,U) and he even went to bed holding his medal :o)

spring break is BAD news for me! all i've done is spend money. while some of it was for my secret pal, not all of it was! i signed up for a Dying to Dye Sock Yarn swap on swapbot, so i ordered some undyed sock yarn from KnitPicks. then there is also the Babe's Fiber Garden Spinning Wheel~ Squeeeeee~ that I won on ebay! I'm soooooooooo excited. and of course if i'm getting a new wheel, that means i need new fiber! so i also ordered some BFL roving from Spunky Eclectic in the Delphinium colorway. is that all.... hmmmmmm... no! i forgot, we also went to the bookstore earlier in the week where i found myself buying Spin to Knit. not to mention coffee drinks while there and dinner the other night.

it's amazing i have any money left~ which really i don't if i plan on getting groceries next week.

today~ we're taking anthony to see the new teenage mutant ninja turtle movie. while i'd rather pass on this, anthony wants me to go, so off i will go......

i am turning into an old bag

We have young 22 y/o neighbors living next door. Usually they're pretty cool. Unfortunately they are young and have more partying in their system than I do at this point in time. There are random occasions when they have the music on loud, and even times when they come home at 12:30 drunk and screaming.

Now, however, is the kicker. They have all their friends down from Ohio for spring break. I cannot handle this all week! They have the music on quite loudly all afternoon/night. They're out on the patio living it up and taking all our parking spaces on top of it! Randy and I were briefly outside last night while he was cleaning his fishing reel. One of the boys said something about having company in town for spring break to which I quickly retorted, "Yeah, I figured since there are like 6 out of state cars out front~ OH, OH, OH, GA, TN, OH". I got my dig in, and he got it.

Today I was outside wiping down a tray and they were out again. They had made comments about me being outside. Then the boy from last night said that they're having people park across the street because they realized it was an inconvenience to us. However, they also put speakers out on their patio so he said, "you know, you gotta give a little to get a llittle". ARGGGHHH. I told him we'll see about that! He said it will be a little crazy for the next week because of spring break. I said, yeah, I'm on spring break too. THen he told me I should come over and party with them, to which I explained that I was too old for that.

I really wanted to relax this week, while I'm off. IT's my spring break too and I deserve to sit on my happy ass and enjoy some peace and quiet. I have a feeling that I'll be the old hag complaining about the young kids next door. I hate to be like that, because I was a partier when I was 22, also. But damnit, I am not going to listen to all this noise for a whole week.

GRRRRRRR~ damn kids!

Happy Mail Day!

hooray~ when i checked my mail today i was happy to find, amongst a solitary bill, the latest VogueKnitting and also a little package from the Yarn Over Lounge thanking me for their support. She sent the cutest little card, a magnet and also a solar powered calculator! How Unexpected!!

Troy & Nikki's Wedding~

I finally got the photos off of Randy's camera. There aren't too many since the battery was about to die. I'm not looking so hot in these shots, except that we had our makeup professionally done~ airbrush and all. I promise I have a bit more shaping than this outfit allows. The skirt was a little big and seemed to be missing some pleats in the back compared to the other girls'. so i kinda looked frumpy. But the shirts were damn cute! Troy and Nikki both looked great!!! It was a nice wedding. The best part was watching Troy get all choked up and teary eyed!!!

ARGGHHH!!!!

i brought my knitting to work since we had conference night but tara and i had no actualy conferences. bad idea. while i was talking, i paid no attention to the fact that i was supposed to shift some of my stitches on the needles. got 5 more rows in when i noticed the pattern~ DAMN! tried frogging those rows but then couldn't get my needles back in the stitches. tried pulling back to the cuff, but STILL coudn't get my needles in :o( the whole thing was frogged!!!! now i'm back on row 1. friggin' a!

It's going much better now! While it's not totally consistent, at least I don't have anything as thick as bright blue rastafari yarn dreads!!!! I'm getting a better hang of the whole park & draft method~ drafting especially. Here's a pick of my spun up fiber. I spun all of the blue wool top. I'm guessing it was about an ounce or so. I know that I had 3 total ounces of fiber. The second is a pretty English multi-colored wool top. There's a bit more of that than the blue. It's GORGEOUS!!!!!!

I am also making better headway w/ my Pomatomus socks. Took me a few rows to get more comfortable w/ the pattern. I was knitting too tightly which made it difficult to get into some of the back loops.

Spinning Woes

I got my drop spindle this weekend and tried it out for the first time on Sunday. Unfortunately, i didn't do so hot. I started off okay with a nice thin yarn. Then I had something quite resembling yarn dreads! I haven't given up hope yet, though. I'm going to try again tonight!

Oh Happy *yester*Day!

Miss Lime from the very awesome Lime & Violet podcast was in Tampa. I got to meet up with her and Justine, another message board member, at Knit N Knibble. Sadly, I got there around 5 and they closed at 6 :o( But, it was quite exciting to hang out with the girls. I was a little awestruck meeting Miss L at first. Afterall, I'd spent everyday for the past month or so listening to everyone of their podcasts! I think they're absolutely hilarious! If it wasn't for them, I might never have tried socks! She and Justine were both great to talk to and I had a blast!!! It was unfortunate that we couldn't hang out longer!

While I was there, I picked up some more Tofutsies. A ball for me and a ball for my Secret Pal.

bad blogger!

i know, i am. i've been a ginormours slackass. and tonight is no exception.

it's been a long week~ the students have been taking their state test all this week and 3 days last week. needless to say that now they've had enough and are acting like animals! i wrote 3 referrals in the last hour of the day. so to deal with it, i went to payless to buy cute red flipflops for nikki's wedding. in the process i also walked out w/ 2 more pairs of shoes. i then came home to sit on my back porch and knit.

my hubby just came home and informed me my stepson has a girlfriend~ tho' he didn't say anything to his daddy. he told his mommy that a girl at school likes him and draws him pictures. she asked anthony if he liked her and he said, "yeah, i do. but don't tell daddy i have a girlfriend!"

too freakin' cute.

on a completely different note, i desperately want a spinning wheel!!! i think i'll spend money on a cheaper Babes Fiber STarter to get the feel for it. i also ordered a drop spindle kit off ebay and can't wait for it to come in!!!

and now, back to being a slack ass. i'm trying hard to finish my mom's socks, but i'm being very slow for some reason.

lazy sunday

i missed nikki's bachelorette party due to the fact that i'm still sick! :o(
i couldn't justify hanging out in the casino and dance club full of smoke and yelling to talk to my friends when i'm hacking ick and am just starting to get my voice back. while i really, really wish i could have been there, i'd rather get better and be healthy for the wedding next weekend.

i spent today sitting on my ass. fortunately sitting on my ass means i can get some knitting done. i finished the first monkey sock using Austermann Step in Melba. i've decided to make these for my mother. the colors are just screaming my mom's name. i hope they fit. i think they will, they're a little big on me and i'm a 7/7.5 and she's an 8. so i'll be crossing my fingers. time to cast on sock #2!

still sick

hack, hack, hack. and lovely laryngitis (sp?) that makes me sound like a honking goose or is it swans that have that obnoxious honk? anyway, i sound awful. better today than yesterday, but still awful!! and because i've been sick, i haven't made much headway on my monkeysocks. unfortunately cold medicine makes me high as a kite and i get all distracted and can't see straight. the other night i totally forgot to knit the heel flap before going on to all the rows of turning the heel. i finished the turning, looked at it, and said "what the hell? where's my heel flap?!?!"" DOH! anyway, photos of what i have done so far at the end of this post...

i also tried dyeing my hair tonight. i picked up my usual shade of Feria Midnight Ruby but also found a high lift brown looking very goldenly and light!! i loved it and said~ ooooh! that would be pretty. but i guess my hair was too dark/purplish/redish for it to give me that pretty golden color. i just got a faded color of what was already on my head! now it's just a lighter brown w/ light and red shades. I'll have to see how i feel about it tomorrow. i don't think i'll put the Midnight on top of it. just bear with it for a couple weeks and get it done at a salon during spring break. we'll see. i change my mind too much.

Lime & Violet PrOn Exchange~~

Here it goes!!!

1. What kind of fibers do you prefer?
i've just learned what real yarn, ie~non-acrylic, is like!!! but since I live in florida, it has to be something light and airy

2. What kind of weight do you prefer (sock, worsted, bulky)?
I just got into making socks, so sock yarn and other light weights for springy/summery garments

3. Do you spin?
I wish! I'd like to learn, but I don't have a clue!

4. Do you crochet?
I can, but I prefer knit over crochet

many!! i only have SnB Nation and Happy Hooker. I've been oogling the Loop d Loop books, ALterknits, and others (see amazon link below)

nope, i'm a swap virgin!
